NRG Plant Delays? Coast News Oct 24
Prevent Drowning

One of the recommendations is to enroll in swim lessons at the Carlsbad pool:  great advice but the pool can only accomodate 1/4 - 1/3 of the families who want to sign up for lessons!

Carlsbad's population has more than doubled since 1990; the Monroe pool was built in the early 1980s.

Tell Carlsbad City Council:  " Build the Alga Norte Pools NOW ! It is a public safety issue."

On my Links page, there's one that will take you to City Council's email.

They'll be voting in mid-October on whether or not to advertising for bids on the Alga Norte Park and Pools.  Join me at City Hall in October to make sure they do the right thing and move the project forward!

(NOTE:  The City Council delayed the vote because of the state budget delays.  I will keep you posted here on CleanCarlsbad.com when the vote is rescheduled.)

Alga Norte Park Summer 2007

Spending ok'd last summer for the park but it has been downsized, delayed, stymied, and stalled.

To add insult to injury, swim lessons have been repeatedly called "recreational" by those voting against the pools.

If that were the case, there would not be long waiting lists year-after-year for swim lessons because families would find different forms of "recreation."  As it is, families fret on the waiting lists and families drive all over North County for swim lessons--pumping money and sales tax into the economies of other cities--because swimming well is a safety issue.  A life-or-death issue.

Alga Norte in Danger Again: 3-2 Vote: Jan 2008

Pool complex once again the target !  Read the citizen comments following the article.  I hear these same sentiments all over Carlsbad.  There is widespread frustrated demand for Alga Norte...and it continues to build up.

NRG and City clash: who to trust? Oct 2008

Read how NRG took issue with the City's description of the power plant situation as well as the "inaccurate" depiction of the plant on opionion surveys.  I appreciate your calls and emails about this issue and share your frustration.  Try to find out more from both sides before making up your mind about being mislead.

Once again, everyone in government works for you and is accountable to you and your standards.  On November 4, you will make some important hiring - - and firing - - decisions.

Power Plant Graphic Criticized
Ugly campaign signs

Not only are the signs ugly, they're made of plastic (which is made of oil).

Election signs are made from Coroplast; the sign manufacturers add different compounds to it, making the signs almost impossible to recycle unless you had a semi trailer full of exactly the same kind.

The signs end up in landfills.

New Pala Skatepark
1.2+ million sq ft Office Vacancy?

We've heard so much about Carlsbad build-out.  It will take a lot more than the status quo in terms of creativity and enthusiasm to make sure that we see Carlsbad filled out!

Bringing new businesses into these empty buildings means more jobs and sales tax for Carlsbad as well.

Note:  1.2 million square feet = 27.55 acres

Not exactly the kind of Open Space we need in Carlsbad.
