More sources for info about Carlsbad and the other candidates for City Council
Yes, I want you to check out the other candidates!
How will they vote on the Alga Norte Park and Pools? If elected, will they keep the project moving ahead? Is it even on their radar?
Here's my litmus test: If someone talks about public swimming pools and aquatics programs as "recreational", they need to take a firefighter, paramedic, or lifeguard to lunch and learn a little bit about a tragedy called DROWNING!
For every child that is able to sign up for swim lessons at the current pool, 2 or 3 are turned away! That's for swim lessons, which are not for recreation but safety.
One of the links is to a local website www.AlgaNorteNow.com where they ask the question, "Did you ever hear of a kid falling down in the grass and dying from lack of golf or soccer lessons?" That's how fundamentally different a pool is from other recreation budget items.
Only one of the candidates (Ann Kulchin) has a voting record that you can examine. Where do the others stand?
Most important is a link to make it easy for you to email the current City Council. They'll be voting on Alga Norte in mid-October.
Your voice is important now to make sure City Council votes in October to put Alga Norte out for bids.
Your vote November 4 is important to make sure the new City Council keeps Alga Norte alive.

Carlsbad City Council Email
Let Mayor Lewis and City Council members Hall, Packard, Kulchin, and Nygaard know your views on the Alga Norte Park, Pools, and Skatepark as soon as possible! In mid-October, after considering the state budget and 3rd quarter sales tax figures, they'll vote on advertising for bids on the redesigned park project.
Everyone can help: do your back-to-school shopping in Carlsbad, write emails, and join me at City Hall for the meeting and vote in October, then vote November 4 for the two Council candidates who you believe will see the project to completion!
With so many children being turned away from swim lessons, this is actually a life-or-death issue!
Drowning is a preventable tragedy. Shame on anyone who calls a much-needed and long-overdue public pool "merely recreational" or "a luxury" !
